Is Call of Duty: Ghosts still active in 2026?

The Steam multiplayer program still records players. This is a dated PC sample, not a promise of a full lobby or a console census.

From my notes. SteamCharts multiplayer app 209170 on 23 October 2026: 38 playing, 82 in the 24-hour peak, 48.83 average over 30 days, 113 in the 30-day peak and 36,922 all-time peak. App 209160 is the separate campaign program; its player count cannot measure multiplayer matchmaking.

What that sample does not say

SteamCharts separates campaign app 209160 from multiplayer app 209170. The figures here use multiplayer only. They do not include Xbox, PlayStation or Wii U, distinguish regions, or show how players are distributed across playlists.
PCGamingWiki says online play on PC Call of Duty games from Modern Warfare 2 (2009) through Advanced Warfare has known security issues and is highly discouraged. Ghosts is inside that range. Read that before you queue.

If the matchmaking list is empty

Squads can be played offline; see offline bots and split-screen. A concurrent total includes people in menus and private matches, so it cannot guarantee a public match.
Activision's online-services page is the official status door. I am not restating a live incident I did not see on 23 October 2026.

Is Ghosts still online?

SteamCharts multiplayer app 209170 recorded 38 players at the 23 October 2026 check. Check Activision for service incidents; a count alone does not prove all servers are working.

Are the servers shut down?

I did not find an Activision shutdown notice for Ghosts in the sources checked that day. Low population is not the same sentence as a shutdown.

Is it safe on PC?

PCGamingWiki discourages online play on this era of PC Call of Duty because of known vulnerabilities.
