Ghost vs Ghosts

Same word, three different answers: a 2013 game, a masked operator, and a German Shepherd named Riley.

From my notes. I hit this mix-up while checking SteamCharts for app 209160 and the Simon Riley wiki on the same afternoon. The player-count page is about the 2013 game. The mask and the death date are about Simon Riley. Nothing on the 2013 store page mentions Task Force 141, and nothing on the operator page mentions the Federation or Extinction.

The 2013 game

Call of Duty: Ghosts shipped on 5 November 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360, Windows and Wii U, then on PS4 and Xbox One. The campaign follows Logan Walker in 2028. The squad is called the Ghosts. That is a unit name.
Start at the game hub for platforms, campaign and Extinction.

The operator

Simon "Ghost" Riley debuts in Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and returns, rebooted, from 2019 through Modern Warfare 4 (2026). His mask, voice actors and death depend on which timeline you mean. Those pages live under Simon Riley.
The 2013 game included a Classic Ghost preset. That preset does not put him in Logan's squad.

The dog

Riley in the 2013 campaign is a German Shepherd you can command. He is not Simon Riley. The character list is on the characters page.

Questions

Is Call of Duty: Ghosts about Simon Riley?

No. The campaign is Logan Walker's story. Simon Riley is only a preset.

Why do people search both together?

The unit, the operator and the dog all use Ghost or Riley. The three pages above keep them apart.
