Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013)

The tenth mainline Call of Duty, a separate story from Modern Warfare and Black Ops. Published by Activision on the IW 6.0 engine.

From my notes. I lined up the Wikipedia article, the official Ghosts page and the Steam app 209160 page on 23 October 2026. Wikipedia dates the first release to 5 November 2013. Steam's own product page shows 25 March 2014. I am not going to call one of those a mistake. Both dates stay on this page until a primary source explains the gap.

Release and who made it

Infinity Ward developed the game, with Raven Software on multiplayer, Neversoft on Extinction and Treyarch on the Wii U version. Activision published it.

PS3, Wii U, Windows and Xbox 360: 5 November 2013. PlayStation 4: 15 November 2013 in North America and 29 November 2013 in Europe. Xbox One: 22 November 2013, which matches the Xbox store page. Steam's listing date is 25 March 2014.

Story in one page

The campaign is set in 2028, ten years after the ODIN orbital strike on the United States. A Federation of the Americas invades. The Ghosts are what remains of US special operations. You mainly play Logan Walker, with David "Hesh" Walker, Elias Walker, Thomas Merrick, Keegan P. Russ, Ajax and the dog Riley.

The antagonist is Gabriel T. Rorke, a former Ghosts captain captured by the Federation. The ending is a cliffhanger. Read it only on the ending page if you want the spoiler.

Modes and scale

Modes are a single-player campaign, multiplayer, Squads, Extinction and Safeguard. The campaign is 18 missions and is not co-op. Extinction is the co-op mode, and it is not Zombies.

Wikipedia and the Fandom weapon and map categories, checked for this build, support 31 multiplayer maps and 46 weapons. Metacritic scores cited by Wikipedia: 78 on PS4 and Xbox One, 73 on Xbox 360, 71 on PS3, 69 on Wii U, 68 on PC. IGN's score was 8.8/10. First-day retail shipments were reported at $1 billion, with 19 million units by February 2014.

Questions

What year does Ghosts take place?

2028, a decade after the ODIN strikes.

Is the Steam date the same as the original release?

No. Steam shows 25 March 2014. The original Windows date in Wikipedia is 5 November 2013. The conflict is unresolved here.

Is Simon Riley in the campaign?

No. A Classic Ghost preset existed as a preorder or custom soldier. He is not Logan's squad.
